The Building Blocks tool helps students explore spatial reasoning and 3D structures. Students can recreate buildings based on height numbers, copy given examples, or use the Free build option to design their own structures.
How it works:
Open the tool and choose your build mode in Settings:
Build the example: Students recreate a model from the given top view or 3D view.
Free build: Students create their own structures on the grid.
Choose the grid size.
Options range from 3x3 to 10x10 tiles.
The larger the grid, the more complex the possible designs.
Use the orange triangle as a landmark for orientation.
Rotate the example and the build grid by dragging.
Switch between Top view (shows numbers for block heights) and 3D view for a more detailed look.
Add or remove blocks.
Use the cube with a + symbol to add blocks.
Use the cube with a - symbol to delete blocks.
Zoom in and out with the + and – buttons on the right-hand side.
Check your build.
Once students think their structure is complete, select Check to compare it with the example (in example mode).
💡Tip: Encourage students to explain their building strategies out loud. For example, have them describe which numbers on the top view grid guided their decisions. This strengthens their spatial vocabulary and helps connect math concepts like coordinates and height with visual problem-solving.
