How to use Floating or Sinking

With the Floating or Sinking tool, students can experiment with objects to see if they float on water or sink to the bottom. This interactive activity helps make science concepts hands-on and fun.

How it works:

  1. Open the tool to see a tank of water and a bar of objects at the top.

  2. Use the arrows to scroll through the available objects.

  3. Click or drag an object into the tank of water.

    • If the object floats, it will stay on the surface.

    • If it sinks, it will move to the bottom of the tank.

  4. Add as many objects as you like to explore and compare.

  5. Use the Reset button (bottom right) to clear the tank and start again.

  6. Turn the sound on or off with the Sound button (top left).

💡Tip: Encourage students to make predictions before dragging an object into the water. Ask them to explain why they think an item will float or sink, then test their ideas together. This makes the activity a simple introduction to scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
