The Metric System tool helps students understand how to convert between different units of measurement. By moving left or right through the units, students can see when to multiply or divide. This makes it easy to visualize how smaller and larger metric units are connected.

How it works:

  1. Open the tool on the interactive whiteboard.

  2. Click on one unit to highlight it.

  3. Click on another unit, and all the units in between will also highlight.

  4. The tool will automatically show the steps and the calculation (×10 or ÷10).

Settings:

  1. Unit of Measurement: Choose what you want to practice:

    • Length (km to mm)

    • Weight (kg to mg)

    • Volume in liters (kl to ml)

    • Area (km² to mm²)

    • Volume in cubic meters (km³ to mm³)

    • Volume in liters and cubic meters (kl to ml)

  2. Range: Decide how many units you want to display.

  3. Orientation: Choose between Cascading (top to bottom) or Horizontal.

  4. Steps: Show all conversion steps right away, or only when clicking on a unit.

💡Tip: Use the tool to walk students step by step through tricky conversions. For example, start with kilometers to millimeters so they can see how many times they need to multiply by 10. Then have them practice with shorter steps, like meters to centimeters, to build confidence.
