The Paying Money tool helps students practice making purchases by paying with the correct amount of money. It connects math skills to real-life situations, making it easy for students to see how money is used day to day.

How it works:

  1. An item with a price appears at the top of the tool.

  2. Drag coins and bills into the rectangle to “pay” for the item.

  3. Click Check to see if the amount paid is correct.

  4. Use Reset to clear the rectangle and start again with the same item.

  5. Use the arrows to browse different items.

Settings:

Click the gear icon to adjust the tool:

  • Currency: Choose from multiple currencies, including US Dollars, Euros, Canadian Dollars, and more.

  • Choose money values: Decide which coins and bills to make available.

  • Highest item price: Set the maximum cost of items that will appear.

  • Notation of whole numbers: Display whole amounts as either $1 or $1.00.

  • Extra options: Require students to pay using the least amount of money (fewest coins and bills).

💡Tip: Turn the tool into a role-play activity. Assign students as “cashiers” and “customers.” One student selects an item and the other pays for it with the correct amount. This makes math practice interactive and fun while reinforcing real-world money skills.
